 Picture of African Drum

CHILDREN'S DRUMMING CLASSES
(For Ages K-12)

I

In depth descriptions of this workshop includes:
  • Learning playing techniques and history from different types of drums
  • Djembe (Africa)
  • Frame Drum (Middle East, India, Spain, Italy, Iran)
  • Ewe Drumming (West Africa)
  • Drumming compositions which emphasize material that has been taught during the workshop, including:
  • Learning how to solo
  • Call and Response playing, where the student learns how to listen and respond through drumming
  • Drumming games that show different ways to understand rhythm
  • Body Percussion
  • Solkattu (South Indian Vocal Percussion)

Drumming introduces the child to something that is not only a rich ancient tradition, but it is also fun to do. Studies prove that drumming calms people, relaxes the mind and adds more enjoyment to life.

The drumming workshops are organized differently depending upon the age groups being aught. The workshops are ideal for a one time experience (special class assemblies), after school program or as a residency program.  Drums are provided for the workshops.

A performance may be included as part of the workshop.
